Father James M. Lafrenz, 90, former Pastor of Holy Family Catholic Church in Deming passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at Laurel Canyon Transitional Rehab Center in Albuquerque.
Fr. Lafrenz was born June 19, 1921 to Mary Elizabeth McGarvey and William Henry Lafrenz in Santa Rita, New Mexico. He attended Grant County Schools and served his country in the U S Air Force Medical Corp. Fr. Lafrenz was ordained in August 15, 1954 as a Roman Catholic Priest for the Diocese of El Paso. He served as Pastor at Holy Family Catholic Church in Deming for 20 years during which time the new church building and rectory were built. During the later years of his tenure as Pastor he battled with multiple sclerosis. He retired after the newly formed Diocese of Las Cruces was established and moved to Albuquerque.
He is survived by two sisters, Mary Caroline Lafrenz and Barbara Ella Dora Lafrenz Massey and his caregiver Fred Porter all of Albuquerque.
