Forrest D. Pender, 90 of Dix, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014. He was born March 16, 1924, on the family farm near Dongola, Illinois, the son of Warner J. and Mamie (Karraker) Pender. He married Launda Keller on December 22, 1942, in Jackson, Missouri and she survives in Dix.

In addition to his wife of 71 years, he is also survived by a son, Michael Pender and wife Margaret of Dix; five grandchildren: Michelle Mays and husband Rod of Dix, Melinda Angles and husband Rob of Centralia, Mamie Pender and Adam Curtner of Dix, Micki Newcomb and husband Nate of Mascoutah, and Mike Pender and wife Kelly of Hoffman; fourteen great-grandchildren: Holly, Cody, Riley and Katie, Rusty and Shelby, Roger, Bobby, Kylie, Jack, Clara, Juanita, Garret, Joeli, Lane, and Reid; two great-great-grandchildren: Brock and Cabrien; several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and a brother-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ferrell Pender, a son, Roger Dean Pender, and a grandson, Mark Allen Pender.

Forrest was a member of the Church of Christ and attended the Tri-City Church of Christ in Central City. He was a grocery man all of his life. Forrest, Launda, Mike, and Margaret opened Farm Fresh in Centralia in 1971. Forrest and Launda loved to travel and spent a lot of time in Arizona. He never met a stranger and loved sharing stories from the past.
