Born June 8, 1927 in David City, Nebraska, Floyd, his older sister Marjorie (Orville Barnes), and his younger sister Hazel (Wally Farnes) were whisked to Pocatello when Floyd was the tender age of 3 by his parents S. Orval Johnson and Lulu Ziehr Johnson. He attended Tyhee Elementary, Irving Jr. High and Pocatello High, class of 1945, making wonderful friendships that continued throughout his life. Immediately following graduation at the age of 17, Floyd joined the Navy V-5 which was the Navy Flight Training program. Though discharged in 1946, he continued flying, getting his pilot’s license and continued to fly as often as possible. In later life, he enjoyed reading military history with a special interest in the Civil War.

He married Ruth Valencia Bilyeu on November 18, 1951 and had three daughters Sue (Larry Myers), Jayne, and Norma (Randy Smith), four grand children, Aaron (Erika) and Adam Myers; Dru and Valencia Smith, and one great grand daughter, Valencia Myers. He and Ruth made their home in the Tyhee area for over 68 years. To the utter delight of their daughters they lead the Flying Banner 4-H club for over 15 years. So many happy memories associated with those summers…..

Floyd was an accomplished ice skater, a skill he picked up in Colorado Springs while in the Navy. Much to the chagrin of his daughters could effortlessly skate faster backwards than they could forward! He could take apart and put back together any piece of farm equipment without using a manual. Floyd loved going out to work and check on the farm with his loyal companion, Bandit, whom he adopted from the Pocatello Animal Shelter.

Sadly, on September 16, 2017 Floyd passed away at his home in Tyhee.
