Mr. North passed away peacefully at a hospital in Sacramento, CA.

FLOYD NORTH, SR., affectionately called “Bill” by his family, was born October 28, 1928 in Carroll County, Georgia. He was the sixth of nine children born to loving parents, Alton “Buddy” North and Addie Winters North. He received his education at Carrollton Elementary, a one-room school from first to ninth grade in the Carroll County community.

Floyd later met Mattie Mae Bone. They were joined in marriage on January 8, 1949. Their union was blessed with eight beautiful children. Floyd, who was known for his hardworking ethics, was employed with Summerville Line Works.

In 1957, Floyd moved his family to San Diego, California where he began working at General Dynamic / Convair. Three years later he began working at North Island with the Naval Public Work Center.

Floyd was also a member of the “E.O.C.” (Equal Opportunity Council) as a representative for people of color who worked in the public works sector of the Navy base.

Floyd was a hardworking, quiet, reserved, smart, intuitive and honest man. He had many wonderful talents; at the tender age of nineteen, he built his first home from the ground up, including doing all the plumbing and electrical work. He was very good at working with his hands, and could fix anything. He was truly “A Jack of All Trades”.

Floyd enjoyed fishing, especially at his favorite spot, Otay Lake; cruising and relaxing in his eighteen foot boat which he named “Big Red”; camping; watching old western movies and sports, particularly football. His favorite team was the Oakland Raiders.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his; son, Gary; brother, Alton “Buddy” Jr., sisters, Clara Mae, Gladys, Eva Bell, Dorothy, Virginia and Teresa.

On Tuesday, October, 22, 2013, Floyd “Bill” North, Sr. passed away peacefully at Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Sacramento, California. He leaves to cherish his memory his children; Floyd North Jr., Robbie North Williams (Kenneth), Jacqueline “Jackie” North, Joan North, Carl North, Christopher North, Debbie North and Sheila North Scott; sister, Cynthia North; special niece, Hattie North Taylor (daughter of Alton Bubba” North Jr.); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives who will mourn his passing, yet celebrate his homegoing.
