Floyd L. Anderson, 86, of Jacksonville, died Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.

He was born April 23, 1930, in Virginia, the son of William E. and Crystal Lynn Anderson. He married Edna P. Workman on Dec. 3, 1950, in Virginia, and she survives.

He is survived by two daughters, Vicki Y. Harp of Winchester, and Tammi G. (Tom) Blesse of Prospect, CT; one son, Chad W. Anderson of McAllen, TX; four grandchildren, Amber (Cary) Bruns of Winchester, Amy (Michael) Clanton of Ste. Genevieve, MO, Ashley Blesse of Hamden, CT and Ryan (Craig) Blesse of Springfield; five great grandchildren, Britani, Haley and Conner Clanton, Hannah Janus, Wayne Bruns; one brother, David (Deanna) Anderson of Arizona; and two sisters, Ruth Bost of Pottsboro, TX, and Marilyn Helmick of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by two children in infancy; one brother, Rick Anderson (surviving wife, Karen), and two sisters, Betty Petefish and Mildred Bolus.

Mr. Anderson worked in the Liquefied Petroleum Industry for fifty years, retiring in 1995. He then was a driver for the Senior Citizens bus program for five years and had been employed as a greeter at Walmart in Jacksonville. Floyd was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He also was a member of the Jacksonville Lions Club since 1980. He had been a member of the West Central Illinois Herb Guild and a volunteer at Passavant Area Hospital.

Floyd was awarded the Carnegie Medal of Heroism for his actions during the explosion at Empire Gas Company in Jacksonville in 1986. His actions were acknowledged by President Ronald Reagan, Governor Thompson of Illinois and the Illinois Legislature, as well as the Illinois State LP Gas Association. He enjoyed working with flowers, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family.
