Floyd George Johnson, 86 of Centralia died at 9:07 A.M. Monday, June 25, 2012 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.

Mr. Johnson was born August 28, 1925 in a log cabin in Clinton County, Illinois, son of Nelson L. Johnson and Permelia (Bierman) Johnson. He married Lela Smith on January 19, 1948 in Salem and she survives in Centralia. In addition to his wife of 64 years, Mr. Johnson is survived by two sons: Gerald “Jerry” Johnson and wife Becky of Belleville and Alan Dale Johnson and wife Karen of Centralia; a son-in-law: Thomas Davis of Elkhart, Indiana; three grandchildren: Christina Crist and husband Geoff of Elkhart, Indiana, Amy Showmaker and husband Dave of Belleville and Andy Johnson and wife Kristi of Belleville; seven great-grandchildren: Shelby, Sydney and Garrett Crist, Katie and Abby Showmaker, Dane and Quinn Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Carol Davis and two brothers, Melvin Johnson and Earl Johnson. Floyd was a Carman for the Illinois Central Railroad for 42 years. He was a member of the Calumet Street Christian Church and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army, a member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and having had a 3rd great-grandfather who served in the American Revolutionary War. He was an avid outdoorsman and fished from Southern Florida to Northern Manitoba, Canada.
