Floyd E. Nelson, 83, of Ottawa, passed away on Friday night, July 13, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. Floyd was born on June 13, 1935, in Serena, to Robert E. and Merle (Howe) Nelson.
He was a graduate of Serena High School, and is in the state’s basketball hall of fame, for keeping score for 35 years at the high school. Floyd was a veteran of the US Army. He married Sharon Herman on January 14, 1966, in Serena. He was a former member of the Serena United Methodist Church, where he served on the board and proudly sang in the choir for years. He was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ottawa. Floyd was also a Mason of the Occidental Lodge #40 in Ottawa. He was a former member of the LaSalle County Lamb and Wool Growers and was a leader of the Lads and Lassies 4H Club.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Sharon, 4 children, Kevin Nelson, of Marseilles, Eric (Sheri) Nelson, of Marseilles, Megan (Scott) Huss, of Varna, and Amber (Jason) Hermann, of rural Ottawa, 13 grandchildren, and 2 sisters Phyllis Nelson, of Serena, and Donna Turner, of Omaha, NE.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy, and a son in infancy.
