Florentino Lopez, 100, long time resident of Belen, NM, passed away on February 1, 2017. He is survived by his loving niece, Rita L.Tafoya, of Albuquerque, NM along with many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatriz Pacheco; father, Martin, Sr.; mother, Isabelita Lopez Y Gallegos; seven brothers; and eight sisters.

The Lopez family is one of the founding families of (Lopezville) Socorro, NM. Martin Lopez, Sr. donated land to New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology, formerly known as, New Mexico School of Mines. He was a graduate of St. Joseph College in Albuquerque, NM where he earned a Bachelor’s degree, and Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM where he earned a Master’s degree in Administration. Florentino taught in Socorro, NM and Peralta, NM and served as a Principal for Gil Sanchez Elementary of the Belen Consolidated Schools for 33 years.

His niece, Rita L.Tafoya, would like to thank the Woodmark at Uptown staff, especially its nursing staff: Dottie Kloster, Melissa Nieto, Val Main; hospice nurse, Carrie Thompson; and his special caregiver, Kinsey Edoakie.

Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m.
