Florence Karen Olson

1916 – 2012

Florence Karen Olson, 95, of Boise, passed away on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at a local hospital.

Florence Karen Olson was born November 4, 1916 in Fullerton, Nebraska to Axel and Karen Anderson, Swedish immigrants.  She was reared and educated in Fullerton, Nebraska graduating from Fullerton High School in 1934.  She received her teaching certificate and taught for one year.  

  Florence married John A. Olson January 2, 1935.  In 1941 Florence and John traveled to Idaho by train along with their children.

  After John’s illness in 1945, they moved to Boise.  There Florence started her career at Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph Company as a long distance operator, supervisor and state instructress, retiring 30 years later in 1976.  After her retirement, she spent many years at their Clear Creek property near Idaho City with John and their grandchildren.

  She is survived by one son and four daughters; Dayle (Sandy) Olson of Kansas City, MO.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband John in 1992 and her grand-daughter, Angela Hill in 1984.
