Florence M. Evans, age 97 of Freeport, IL, passed away at home on June 18, 2021. She was born June 22, 1923 in Cedarville, IL; the daughter of Charles and Ida (Zurbriggen) LaBorde. She attended Orangeville High School and graduated from Freeport High School. Florence married Donald J. Evans on October 18, 1941; he passed on May 15, 1989.
Florence and Don worked together in the family business, Evans Electric in Freeport. She was a member of Embury United Methodist Church and of the YWCA. She was a Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader and Brownie Leader. She also volunteered at Malcolm Eaton Enterprises and was a Pink Lady at FHN. Florence loved gardening and crafts. She was also an avid golfer. Florence and Don were frequently seen golfing together at Park Hills Golf Course.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Valentine of Tallahassee, FL; brother-in-law, Russell Kundert; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; son, Donald “Gary” Evans; daughters, Patricia K. and Kathy Lou; grandson, Raphael; brothers, Jack LaBrode, Robert “Bob” LaBorde, and Richard LaBorde; and sisters, Alfreda Rusk and Sally Kundert.
