Florence Luella Cruse passed away the evening of February 4th, 2013 with her daughters at her side. She was 93 years old, living at Inglenook Assisted Living for the past 2 ½ years. Her only son was home in West Virginia too ill to be with her.
She was born in Saskatchewan, Canada on January 2, 1920 on the family homestead. Her family moved from there to South Dakota, Montana and Tennessee before settling in El Monte, California.
When she was 17 years old she married Anthony Gibbons and they had three children. After a few difficult years of marriage they divorced. In 1947 she met and married Melvin G. Cruse. They settled down to raising her three children in El Monte, California.
In 1954 the family moved to Boulder, Colorado where they started the Kwik Lunch Catering business and operated it for 25 years. In 1980 they retired and moved to Fort Lupton, Colorado.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband Melvin, three brothers, three sisters, and three grandchildren. She leaves behind her three children, Mary Geolfos, Marjorie Gibbons and Michael Gibbons, eleven grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren, all living in Colorado, Kansas and California. She has one surviving brother, Bill Grubbs, living in California. For the last seven years of her life, she was the oldest of five living generations.
Florence was a strong, fun loving woman who loved her large family and was very protective of them. This is a woman who was direct and straightforward. If you knew her you knew she always spoke her mind and then some. We thought of her as absolutely fearless, and loved her dearly.
