Obituary of Florence E. Doyle

Florence is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Patrick Doyle, her parents Ole Mathius and Petra Kjelsberg, her brother Arthur and his wife Christine Kielsberg of Kyle, Saskatchewan, brother-in-law Charles Wickland, and sister-in-law Genevieve C. Gobeil. She is survived by her sister Amy Wickland of Vancouver, B.C.. Also survived by Pat and Jeanne Coonan and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Canada. Florence was born October 30, 1920 in Mayville, ND. She grew up in Tuberose, Saskatchewan and graduated from Concordia College in Fargo, ND, with a Degree in Home Economics. Florence taught in several public high schools in Minnesota where she met Joe. She and Joe, also a teacher, traveled extensively during their summer vacations. Florence earned a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from the College of St. Thomas and taught Math at Richfield High School until she retired after 25 years there. Once she retired she became an active volunteer of the Minnesota Historical Society. She was active in the Women’s Organization of the Minnesota Historical Society for many years and served as it’s president from 1990 – 1992. While serving as President of the WOMHS the construction of the present MN Historical Building was completed and she had the honor of helping to fill in the cornerstone. She served many years as docent at the Governor’s Mansion, and was an election judge for the City of St. Paul. Florence was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and member of the Rosary Society.
