Florence Dignan Age 94, of Owosso, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at her home in Owosso. Florence was born in 1922 in Columbia, South Carolina, to Charles B. Moore and Lillian (Chandler) Moore. She lived in the south until age 5 when she came to Owosso with her mother. From that time until she graduated high school, she and her mother lived in the Wesener Building apartments. Last year she was honored with a guided tour of the recently restored building, which was absolutely amazing to her and brought back many fond memories. Florence graduated from Owosso High School in 1940. She was the salutatorian of her class. She later attended Lansing Business Institute. Her first job was as a secretary at Memorial Healthcare. She later worked at Sturdevant and Blood Lumber Yard, and at Bendix Aviation. She and James Dignan were married on October 17, 1942. Six weeks later, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force. Florence followed him to California and worked at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California. When her husband went overseas, she returned to Owosso and worked at Midwest Abrasive. She later worked at Car Part Corporation in Owosso. Florence was an active volunteer at Memorial Healthcare, serving in many capacities including President of the Memorial Healthcare Auxiliary, member and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, and for 42 years as the Chairman of the Four Seasons Gift Shop. She amassed well over 50,000 volunteer hours in service to the hospital. Florence had a wonderful life, and many special friends. She continued to remark how fortunate she was, almost to her last breath. She is survived by three children, Terrance (Linda) of Owosso, Julie Ranspach of Ann Arbor, and Mary (Lucy Moore) of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, Lindsey, Patrick, Erik, Helen (Joe), Renee; great grandchildren, Ashley, Austin and Robin; great-great grandchild Amelia; her best friend, June Dignan Caponi; nieces, Ann, Maureen and K.C. and nephews, Thomas, Alec, Patrick and David. She was predeceased by her parents and family wishes to publically thank her caregivers, Robin Donelson, Beth Gall, Kim Bennett and Julie Powell for their kind and loving care, and also the staff at Durand Convalescent Center and Hospice for their exceptional care during her last days.
