Filbert Tobias, age 87, of Woodbridge, VA passed away Friday, November18, 2016 at the Novant Health Prince William Medical Center. He was born on September 20, 1929 in Patterson, NJ, the son of the late Isidore and Dora (Medweid) Tobias. He was a retired statistician as a contractor for the US Government. He was a US Navy veteran serving for 5 years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Toby Lynn Tobias and great grandson, Micah Aedan Haselton. Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Sandra M. Tobias; two children, Cheryl Zapien and husband Ronald, Dr. Rickie Simpson and husband Bruce; grandchildren, Benjamin Zapien and his wife Ashley, Ilissa Krainess and her husband Matthew, Helena Pedersen and her husband Matthew, Laura Haselton and her husband Matthew and Joseph Simpson; great grandchildren, Audrey Grace Haselton, Olivia Clare Haselton, Mia Zapien, Macy Zapien and Caleb Krainess; brother, Henry Tobias. He is also survived by his foster daughter Cory Sharkey and her husband Bob. Mr. Tobias was the Treasurer of The Northern Virginia Planning Commission as well as sitting on the Water Board for Governor Allen. He was involved in Northern Virginia Politics. He had a passion for guns and was a member of the NRA. He enjoyed the out-of-doors and nature. He enjoyed working with wood and pastels.
