Fidel was born to Miguel and Maria Flores in Lockhart, Texas on August 6, 1947.   He grew up in Texas and later, his family moved to Commerce City, Colorado where he attended Adams City High School.  In August 1965 he started his 11-year history in the United States Armed Forces, where he served in three branches of the military: United States Navy (’65-’69) and United States Naval Reserve (’69-’73), United States Army National Guard (1973), United States Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard (’73-’78).  He would always joke about serving in just three branches of the military… “because the Marines only needed a FEW good men!”.  He was very proud and honored to serve his country.

He absolutely loved the ocean, I guess that’s why he enlisted in the Navy first! He loved “oldies” music, dancing, sci-fi movies, telling “dad jokes” with that dry sense of humor he had. He loved to ski the black diamond runs and was really good at it, even though he hit a tree a time or two! But above all, he cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren the most.

He passed away on December 3rd, 2021 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, CO at the age of 74. He was a beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Maria, brother Joe, son Pete and grandson Lil’ Shawn, grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is survived by his daughter Bernice, son Fidel Jr. and daughter Joanne. He was “Grumpa” and “Pee-Pa” to his grandchildren: Nia, Cassandra, Danielle, Gia and Caleb. Great grandpa to Serenity, Sage, Brody and Daniel Levi.  Brothers: Paul (Barbara), Robert (Jaysue), Mike (Becky), Jim (Jackie), Frank, his sisters: Chris (Eddie), Janie (Dave), Anita (Paul), Margaret (Raul) and Eva (Kevin). In addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

We Miss You

Our hearts still ache with sadness, and many tears still flow. What it meant to lose you, no one will ever know. We hold you close within our hearts, and there you will remain. To walk with us throughout our lives, until we meet again.
