Fernando Iglesias a current resident of Stoughton, formerly of the Mission Hill section of Boston, passed away in Norwood on Sunday April 30, 2017. He was 85 years old and the beloved husband of the late Nelida “Nellie”(Garcia) Iglesias to whom he was married to for over 37 years. He is survived by his loving children, Fernando “Fern” Iglesias of Stoughton, Jorge “Chico” Iglesias and his wife Joanne of Norwood and Carlos Iglesias and his wife Julie also of Stoughton. Other survivors include his 2 sisters, Maria Lamelas of Florida and Ana Aguiar of Cuba, his 9 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also a brother to the late Ramon Portero, Raul Iglesias, Olga Bacallao and Jorge Portero.
Born September 3, 1931 in Havana, Cuba, he was a son to late Raymond Portero and Celia Iglesias. Fernando was employed as a truck driver for many years in the construction and moving industries. He also drove school buses while in Cuba. His hobbies included baseball and fishing. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and was fortunate enough to play minor league baseball as a young man in Cuba.
