Fern Miracle, born Fern Sylvia White, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the age of 92 at Grace Assisted Living. Fern was born August 21, 1919 in Fort Pierre, South Dakota. She was born the oldest of three girls to Ida and Dale White. She grew up on a farm in Florence, South Dakota. She attended Northern State Teacher’s College in Aberdeen, South Dakota and graduated with a four year Bachelor of Science in education in 1944. After graduating, she returned home shortly before a tornado destroyed the family farm. She enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp (WAC) shortly afterward on July 8, 1944 as a Medical Technician and General Clerk.
She applied for teaching jobs after the war and was selected for teaching positions, first in Wyoming then in Fairfield, Idaho. She loved to teach and was very strict, according to many of her students.
After raising their children, Fern became active in the Mountain View Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She formed friendships in those organizations that lasted many years.
She is survived by her two sisters, Shirley Dezotell (Mesa, AZ) and Ramona Ustrud (Watertown, SD); four sons, Dale Miracle, wife Barbara (Boise, ID), Dennis Miracle, wife Karen (Boise, ID), Lynn Miracle (Fruitland, ID), and Vey Miracle, wife Julie (Wheaton, IL). Fern also is survived by three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, Matt Miracle, wife Maria, children Mark and Megan; Becky Miracle, and Brian Miracle. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Ida and Dale White and her husband Harlan Miracle.
