Fern Louise Gaul, beloved wife of Ray Gaul for 42 years, passed away on March 5th.  Fern was born in Yosemite National Park.  At age of seven her parents, Harry and Naomi Jessen, moved the family to Alameda.  She attended Lincoln Elementary School before graduating from Alameda High School and Heald Business School.

Fern is survived by her beloved husband, Ray Gaul, her brother, Rich (Joan) Jessen, and her children Jim (Sue) Gaul, Pam (Bob) Gaul Loudy, and Gary (Robin) Gaul.  She was the beloved grandmother of Janelle (Mark) Gaul Fisk, Katie (Lee) Loudy Wright, and Kristin Loudy, and great-grandmother to Amelia Wright.  She was the cherished aunt of Mike (Barbara) Jessen and Cathy (Buzz) Jessen Cruce, and great aunt to Jacob, Jared, and Jenna Cruce.   Nieces Teri Gaul and Tammy Gaul and nephew Jack Tillings.

Fern was dedicated and hard working in her professional life as well as in all of the organizations of which she was a member.  Her favorite activities included a very active 51- year membership in Alameda Oak Leaf Chapter #8 Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and Deputy Grand Matron; the Annual Reno Golf Tournaments for the Alameda County Golf Club for 24 years; the Oakland Police Golf Club for 6 years; and Fantasy Island Costumes where she enjoyed creating and making costumes and participating in the San Francisco Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
