Faye Polk Cavender found her perfect healing from cancer on June 21 as God’s perfect angels gently lifted her from this life and placed her into the presence of her God and all the family who had preceded her into life everlasting. Faye was born March 30, 1937 to the late James Virgil and Berta Mae Boggs Polk. She was the oldest of seven children. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Fletcher Emory Cavender and her sister, Shelby Addison. Faye worked for many years at Playtex, Inc. as a sewing machine operator. She took an early retirement to go on the road with Fletcher while he built water tanks. They later opened Fletcher’s Welding and Muffler where they worked side by side along with their son-in-law Dwayne Thompson for over 30 years. She was a favorite with all the repeat customers who lovingly referred to her as “Maw Maw”. Faye loved reading, crossword puzzles, cooking, working in her yard, but nothing gave her as much satisfaction as the time she spent with her family. She started a “bucket list” late in life and became quite adventurous. One of the most interesting things on her list was to do a zip line at the young age of 76. Travelling was a great adventure for her and she loved her cruise to Hawaii on her 70th birthday. In her words, “Cruising was the way to go”! Her diagnosis with cancer was, for her, another race and she won it in her own way when she went home to be with the Lord. She was a lady who garnered instant love from her family and friends who will miss her but celebrate the victory lap she is now on. She is survived by her son, Fletcher W. Cavender (and Vickie) and her daughter Dianna Cavender Thompson (husband Dwayne). She loved being grandmother to Benjamin James “B.J.” Thompson (and Holly), Clinton Emory Thompson and Fletcher Kyle Cavender. She was the doting great grandmother to Lilly and Mason. Also surviving are her siblings, Dean (and Charles) Bevil, Judy (and Frank) Meredith, Sheila (and Blaine “Red”) Jenkins, James Polk and Tommy Polk. There is an extended family of nieces and nephews.
