Strengthened by the final sacraments of the church and embraced by a loving family, Fr. Tom Mescall passed peacefully into eternity in the early morning of February 1st.

He leaves behind his son, Thomas J. Mescall II Esq., daughter, the Honorable Regina Ann Mescall (Peter Kramer) and four grandchildren, Regina Celeste, Abel, Therese  and Walter–Also his brother James Mescall. He is greatly missed by dear and faithful friend, Mary Molina Mescall.

Fr. Tom lived a blessed and good life, born to James and Helen Mescall in Chicago on December 9, 1947.  As a young man Fr. Tom headed west and attended the University of Albuquerque followed by The John Marshall Law School where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree. Returning to Albuquerque, Judge Mescall practiced law from 1973 to 2000, serving 17 years as a judge on the Municipal, Metropolitan, District and Probate Courts.

Fr. Tom then received the call to serve the Lord as a Roman Catholic priest.  He attended Sacred Heart School of Theology in Wisconsin and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago on May 22, 2004. For the next fourteen years he ministered to the good people of Chicago. He was pastor of St. Adrian’s Parish for ten years.

Fr. Tom had a great love for all things Irish and Hispanic. To honor these cultures he earnestly sought to master the Irish Concertina musical instrument and the Spanish language.

Fr. Tom had a great love for the “little guy” and the homeless. He was very active in supporting the Little Brothers of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque and especially the leadership of Brother Mathias Barrett.  He was Bro. Matthias’ pro bono attorney and a benefactor of the community. Fr. Tom left us his longtime dream of beginning the canonization process for Brother Mathias.

“Dear Lord, you made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in thee”(St. Augustine, Fr. Tom’s favorite quote)

Slán Fr. Tom (Irish for goodbye.)
