Father Francis Mary Oman, IC, 87, died on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Rosmini House, West Peoria. The beloved son of the late William and Margaret (Murtagh) Oman was born May 15, 1929 in Dublin, Ireland.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Billy, Paddy, and John, and two sisters Kathleen and Eileen. He is survived by two brothers, Ultan and Peter Oman and three sisters, Sister Margaret Oman, O.S.F., Sister Nancy Oman, O.S.F., and Sister Agnes Oman, C.S.B. as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews in the U.S., Canada, England, Australia, and Ireland.Father Oman was ordained a priest on July 14, 1957. In 1958, he began his ministry in Galesburg at St. Patrick’s. In 1960, he became pastor of Sacred Heart, Abingdon.

From 1969 to 1981 he was pastor of Corpus Christi, Galesburg. He then moved to Rosmini House, West Peoria, where he served as provincial superior to the Rosminians in the U.S. In 1989, he returned to parish life as pastor of Sacred Heart, Abingdon and St. Augustine. As a semi-retired, but still active priest, he served in the parish of St. Teresa’s, Spring Hill, Florida from 1999 to 2008. Rosmini House (which he rebuilt in 1984) once again became his home until he entered into eternal life this past Saturday.All those who served at Rosmini House during his time there are fondly remembered, and special thanks goes to of his devoted caregivers during the final stage of his life on earth.Ar Dheis De Go Raibh H-Anam Dilis (May His Soul Be To The Right of God).
