Evelyne Ralph Harmon (May 24, 1924 – February 1, 2011) Evelyne Ralph Harmon, a native of Tennessee who has resided near her son’s family in Georgia since surviving a major illness in 2005, passed away Tuesday February 1 at Brightmoor Nursing Home near Griffin, Ga. She was born in Goodlettsville, Tenn., on May 24, 1924, the middle child in a family of nine children that grew up in what was then rural Sumner County. An excellent student, she was the valedictorian of her senior class at Goodlettsville High School and married the Rev. Frank Harmon at her family church, Old Beech Cumberland Presbyterian, where he was pastor, on November 18, 1945. Through the years, they served at other Cumberland Presbyterian Churches throughout Tennessee, including Dayton, Cleveland, Maryville, Dyer, Cookeville, Manchester and Lenoir City, as well as Denton, Texas. In addition, she attended several colleges and universities, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Tennessee Tech University and a Master’s Degree from North Texas State University. A career teacher, she taught elementary school in Argyle, Texas and Loudon, Tenn., as well as special education in Manchester, Tenn. In addition, she will be remembered for her countless hours of church related service, especially as a part-time secretary and music director, and her work on behalf of Christian education. Having developed a love of growing things from her father, she was also known for her gardening expertise, a skill that was never more evident than in her later years after retirement on 40 acres of rural property near Beech Grove, Tenn. She is survived by her husband, Rev. Frank Harmon, who also now resides in Griffin; two sons, F. Martin Harmon of Senoia, Ga., and Dr. Harold R. Harmon of Salem, Oregon; two grandsons, Matthew Harmon of Loganville, Ga., and Andrew Harmon of Lilburn, Ga.; four great grandchildren; sisters, Juanita Hawkins of Goodlettsville, Tenn, Deba Gammons of Madison, Tenn, Mina Smith of Madison; brothers, L.D. Ralph, Wallace Ralph, James Ralph all of Goodlettsville, Tenn.
