Evelyn Mabel (Freeberg) Kuehl, age 98, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Hilltop Alpine Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids.  She is now with her Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior, and family members who passed before her.

Evelyn was born November 19, 1923 in Wisconsin Rapids to John and Albertine (Tennyson) Freeberg, and lived here all her life, in the Rudolph area and in Wisconsin Rapids.

Evelyn had two great passions in life: her love for God and for her church, and her love for her family. She and her sister Lillian used to talk to each other by phone every evening and read the Bible to one another. When Lillian’s eyesight became too poor for reading, Evelyn continued reading to her every evening. Evelyn loved keeping in touch with friends and exchanging cards and letters. She was known for her sweetness and her kindness. She also had a lifelong love for animals and a concern for their well-being. She would put out vegetable scraps for the rabbits in her yard and for most of her adult years, she had a small dog as her companion.

Evelyn was the last of seven Freeberg children to pass away.  She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl D. Meltzer of Stevens Point; grandchildren: Vered Tal Meltzer of Appleton and Ilana R. Meltzer of Stevens Point; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren; as well as more distant relatives in the US and in Sweden.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard C. Kuehl; and siblings: John (Viola) Freeberg, Howard (Frances) Freeberg, Violet (Arnold) King, Earl (Crystal) Freeberg, Lillian (Carl) Morrison, and Kenneth (Arleen) Freeberg.

Evelyn’s family is very grateful for all the kind assistance which she – and they – received during the years when she required special care. They especially thank Hilltop Affiliates, and the staff at Hilltop Grand and Hilltop Alpine, and the nurses and aides from Heartland Hospice. Their loving care of our mother/grandmother helped us greatly to navigate through a very sad and difficult time in our lives.
