Evelyn Josephine Bosch

Evelyn Josephine Dengerink Bosch was born at home in rural north central Kansas on July 27, 1922, the third of four children. Her young life was shaped by the harsh realities of farm life during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, with memories of dust on the window sills and sheet covers. That experience showed itself in her frugal ways that was passed even to her grandchildren, some of whom proudly claim their expertise in sales and clearance shopping. Evelyn’s spunky personality showed itself early as she not only finished high school and obtained a certificate to teach in a one-room school house, but also left her community to come to the big city of Denver.

Evelyn met her husband, Meindert, through his sister who was one of her new friends in Denver. This eventually led to a 69-year-old marriage and 4 children – Bob, Ron, Luci, and Bonnie — and 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Evelyn’s two older brothers, Harold and Sylvester pre-deceased her, and she is survived by her younger sister, Grett, of Downs, KS.

Like many women of her time Evelyn devoted many of those years to her home and family, including faithfully supporting her sons’ sporting events. She eventually entered the workforce with jobs in a school cafeteria and later as a secretary-receptionist for many years at Denver Christian High School. We’re sure there are a number of former students still frustrated by her staunch upholding of the school’s tardy policy!

Like many of us Evelyn knew how to “fret,” but her giving to others as an expression of her faith is the legacy she has left. We are so grateful for the long life she lived as one of God’s special children.
