Evelyn Jones-Banks, 82, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, NJ to go and dance with her “Creator”. She was born on February 22, 1933 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to the late Chap Jones and Edna Collins Jones.  At an early age, she accepted Christ and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Northport, AL.

Evelyn completed her high school education by graduating from Tuscaloosa County Training School before moving to the Jersey Shore in 1951.  She attended and graduated from Brookdale Community College and New York University where she earned her Degrees in Early Childhood Education. Over the course of her life due to an unconditional love for children, she served as Director of the Drop-In Day Care Center in Asbury Park, NJ for many years. She ended her career first by retiring from Brookdale Community College, and then from Allstate Insurance Company. Evelyn was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Neptune, NJ.

Evelyn, affectionately known as “Alwee” by her family and close friends, will always be remembered for her kind words of encouragement; making everyone feel special because family members always referred to her as “My Alwee”; and her great love for cooking – she always fed the village.  She will forever be remembered by all the children she raised and nurtured. 

Evelyn Jones-Banks was predeceased by two sisters, Bertha Layton (McKinley) and Margaret Palmer; three brothers, James H. Jones, Samuel L. Jones (Betty), and Ike L. Jones.

She leaves behind three daughters to cherish her memories, Paula Jones, Ocean, NJ, Renee’ C. Banks, Neptune, NJ, and Adrian Banks-Jones; her only grandchild, Earon Andre’s Jones, Aberdeen, MD; one brother Willie L. Jones; sister-in-law, Alice Jones, Neptune, NJ; nephew and godson, Kevin “Lover” Jones (Hope), Cary, NC;  niece she parented, Sheila Palmer Becker, Stone Mountain, GA; special family friends, Loretta Wright, and Marcus A. Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
