Evelyn Jean Thomas, 89, of Freeport, died Sunday, February 3, 2013, at Freeport Rehabilitation & Care Center. Born July 8, 1923, in Freeport she was the daughter of Henry and Florence (Powell) Caudle.
She married Melvin L. Thomas on January 1, 1946, and he died on October 8, 2006. Evelyn was a graduate of Browns Business College. Her memberships include Deaconess & member of Dakota Community Church and their two circles, member White Shrine and Eastern Star, and Home Extension. She was a former Cub Scout Leader.
Surviving is her daughter, Mary Ann (David) Royer of Elburn, and grandchildren, Christina (Steve) Luxbacher of Franklin, Pennsylvania, and Timothy (Teresa) Royer of Aurora; one son, Duane (Marcia) Thomas of Winfield, and grandchildren, Diana (James Lee) Thomas of Champaign, Lisa (Scott) Campbell of Little York; and Steve Thomas of Winfield; great-grandchild, Kaitlin Luxbacher of Franklin, Pennsylvania.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Robert and Edward Caudle.
