Evelyn G. Hoekstra, age 95, of DeMotte, IN passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village. Evelyn was born on August 19, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois to Jacob and Bertha (Oosting) Schurman.
She married the love of her life, Drewes “Duke” Hoekstra on March 11, 1949, in Momence, Illinois, and they were married for 62 wonderful years. They previously lived in Grant Park, Illinois, and moved to DeMotte in 2000.
He preceded her in death on October 20, 2011. Evelyn was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church of DeMotte. In her younger days, she enjoyed bowling and golf, and loved gardening, traveling, and listening to music. It was her joy to care for her home and family.
Evelyn is survived by her loving sons: Jim (Cindy) Hoekstra; Jack (Lynn) Hoekstra; Dave (Barb) Hoekstra; and Don (Lisa) Hoekstra; 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews.
Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 4 brothers: Clarence “Click”, Maynard “Mick”, Henry, and Jacob Schurman.
