A lifelong resident of the Riverton area, Evelyn graduated from the Riverton High School with the class of 1941 and continued her formal education attending Hastings College for two years where she studied business administration. She was united in marriage with Roy H. Clements on May 30, 1943 at San Diego, California. This union was blessed with three children, Judy, Sherry and Mike. At the completion of Roy’s military service during World War II, they continued to make their home at Riverton where Evelyn was employed with Harrington’s Department Store.
Evelyn continued to make Riverton her home where she enjoyed her retirement and was an active part of the community. She was a member of the Congregational Church and served for many years as the church treasurer. She was a member of the Women’s Fellowship and the American Legion Auxiliary. Evelyn additionally volunteered her time serving as treasurer for the Alumni Association. In her leisure time she enjoyed cooking, embroidery work, the out doors, the scenery of the river landscape and the company of her cat, Kirby. Her greatest love and enthusiasm in life was for her family and she especially cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren. Evelyn’s personality was pervaded by her cheerful, beautiful and quick smile. She truly did not know a stranger and possessed the ability to make everyone she met a friend. Her door was always open to friends and neighbors and she will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know her. In April of 2012, Evelyn moved to the Assisted Living at Franklin.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Roy, on January 22, 1991; a grandson, Steve Jakubowski; great grandsons, Kameryn Bluford and Hudson Hendricks and a brother, Dean Richardson.
Left to treasure her memory are her children, Judy Jakubowski of Grand Island, Nebraska; Sherry Hendricks and husband Gene of Campbell, Nebraska and Mike Clements of Alma, Nebraska; 6 grandchildren, Michael Jabubowski and wife Melissa; Brenda Thompson and husband Michael; Jill Brodbeck and husband Matt; Kris Hendricks and wife Brooke; Katie O’Brien and husband Ryan and Kandi Dolesh and husband Ramsey; 12 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Richardson of Grand Island, Nebraska; other relatives and a host of friends.
