Eva (Pomponio) Hampton, 86, of Haddam, the wife of Kenneth T. Hampton, former State Senator of the 33rd Senatorial District and retired Director of Vinal Technical School in Middletown, passed away on Tuesday, April 15th at Middlesex Hospital. Born on August 6, 1921 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Zefferina”Sophie” (Ferrara) Pomponio. Eva worked for IBM during WWII and GE in the early 60’s and after WWII worked for Auburn University where she met her husband. In 1972, she retired from Wesleyan University where she was a computer programmer and operator. Eva was very active in Politics involving her husband’s campaigns and was a past member of the Haddam Garden Club. Besides her loving husband of 60 years, Eva is survived by two sons, John K. Hampton of Haddam and David R. Hampton and his wife, Eleanor (Misenti) Hampton of Meriden; a grandson, Tandy T. Hampton, PhD. and his wife, Cheri (Bunder) Hampton, PhD. of Tallahassee, FL; two sisters, Faith Pomponio and Viola (Pomponio) Padula, both of New York; a brother in law, Spud Hampton, and his wife, Lorraine, of Tampa, FL; four sister in laws, Pernie (Hampton) Legg of AL, Linn (Hampton) Gregory, Jane (Hampton) Stevens, and Vera (Hampton) Bohan, all of Fort Meyers, FL and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Camille (Pomponio) Liverman; four brothers, Edward, Charles, Dominic and Arthur Pomponio and a sister in law, Leona (Hampton) Steffen.
