Mrs. Eva Marie Aekins, 92, of Wade, North Carolina departed this life on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Bethesda Medical Center in Eastover, NC. Mother Aekins was the daughter of the late Carrie McLean and Will Holmes. She was education in Cumberland county schools. She worked in the tobacco & cotton fields on the roads we travel today known as Four Point and The River Road. She met and married the late Anderson Aekins. She worked at Wade Elementary for over thirty years and when she retired the staff was overwhelmed with her departure. She was a pillar in her community and was loved by all. She was a missionary and a member of Wesley Chapel AME Zion Church where she was an active member for over half a century. Mother Aekins was an usher, Sunday school teacher (adults), a member of the gospel chorus, and when you called she’d come. She enjoyed being with family, fishing, gardening and cooking. She was well known for her baked goods. Her famous phrase was “Help Yourself Sug, I have a Plenty”.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons, John Curtis Rodgers of the home and John Rogers Fischer of Wade; one daughter Rachel Ann Rodgers; three grandchildren, Lajuana Clark, Vecchio and Sevikinandan McKethean; one great grandchild, Sevikinandan McKethean Jr. all from Washington, DC; one brother, Oscar Holmes of Annapolis, MD; three sisters-in-law, Melissa Holmes of Baltimore, MD and Mildred Aekins Murrell of Wade, NC, and Jerry Holmes of Annapolis, MD ; three stepsons, Huell Aekins of Wade, Stanford Aekins of Fayetteville and Robert Aekins of Stamford, CT; one stepdaughter, Beverly Debrick from Killeen, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
