Eugenia Gil, 88, of New Britain, died on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Avon Health Care Center, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Adam Gil. Born in Turkey, she was a New Britain resident for most of her life before most recently residing in Avon. She was employed by Fafnir Bearing Co. for 27 years and worked as a Nurse Aide at New Britain General Hospital. She was a Union Steward with UAW Local 133 and a member of the Women’s Committee, Smith School Advisory Council and Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. Eugenia was a Democrat and very involved in town politics. She was the Commissioner on Aging in New Britain and also was a Cub Scout Den Mother. She received the Lawrence F. O’Brien Service Award from the Democratic National Committee. Eugenia is survived by her son John Gil and his wife Pauline and her daughter Jeanette Girard and her husband Dennis, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of the A wing at Avon Health Care.
