Eugene (Gene) Von Oder passed away in Boise, Idaho on Feb. 18, 2012.
Gene was born on August 20,1936 in Los Angeles, CA. He was raised in N. Hollywood, attended Notre Dame High School and 1 yr at the Univ. of Notre Dame on a basketball scholarship. He then served 4 yrs in the Air Force, stationed in Japan.
Gene and Emily eventually divorced and he later married Katharine (Katie) Newton. In 2001 they moved to Boise, ID. Gene and Katie enjoyed their years traveling throughout Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, the Caribbean and numerous US cities and Nat’l Parks. They esp. enjoyed their trip to Norway which included Katie’s mother. Gene was an avid reader and could converse on most any topic. He had a great wit and intellect which will be missed. He also enjoyed skiing, riding ATV’s in the mtns. and golfing in Idaho and Tucson, AZ where he had hoped to spend his winters. He loved his Boise home and wonderful caring neighbors. He esp. loved his Sheltie Lily, who looks for him daily.
Upon his failing health Gene stated “He had a great run.” Maybe so, but our hearts are breaking and we miss him terribly.
Gene is survived by his wife of 20 years, Katie, his son Kevin, (Redding, CA) daughter Kathleen (Byron) Wachtler (Boise), special family member Ronda Priestner (San Fran), special friend Lynn Wayne and numerous friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents Ethel (Jones) and Eugene Von Oder. Per his wishes, his cremated remains will be released at sea on the beach in Del Mar, CA in May.
