Eugene Victor Peters of Silver Spring, MD. Beloved father of Ann P. Cochran (Chuck) and Philip Peters (Mirella); loving Grandfather of Clayton (Rebecca), Tiffany (Kevin), James, Harris (Kathleen), Bill, Tommy and Orlando; delighted Great Grandfather of Penn, Jackson, Hucksley, Elizabeth and Henry.
Eugene Victor Peters, ever affable and optimistic, was born in 1924 in Metuchen, New Jersey to Polish immigrant parents, Cecelia and Ignatius. He was raised and educated there in a family of nine children.
He graduated from Rider College in Trenton, New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. He went on to a career in financial accounting at RCA Corporation mainly in Somerville, New Jersey with stints in Harrison and Cherry Hill, New Jersey; Fort Meade, Maryland; and Beersheba and Tel Aviv, Israel.
On a blind date at the beach, he met Grace Sanfilippo, the love of his life and the daughter of Italian immigrants Silvia and Filippo.
Thus opened a novel and long-lasting chapter of his life that began in East Orange, New Jersey in an Italian household. There he and Grace brought their two children Ann and Philip into the world, and they remained there until shortly after the passing of Grace’s parents. Their sweet and happy marriage, which cultivated his lifelong interest in gastronomy, lasted until Grace’s passing in 1978.
In 1991, having retired to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, he met Loretta Santoro, who survives him, and had another chance at marital happiness with a second loving, extended Italian family. They separated amicably in 2007 and Gene moved to Maryland where he was close to his children and their families for the rest of his life.
