Those left to honor Gene’s memory are his wife, Mary of Newton; daughter, Marcia Graber of Newton; his 2 sons, Dennis Flattery of Melrose, Iowa and Chris (Linda) Flattery of Odebolt, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Alicia Graber, Matt Graber, Tami Elston, and Paul Lersson; his 3 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Vince (Kaye) Flattery, Edward (Helen) Flattery, James (Clara Lou) Flattery, and Louise (Martha) Flattery; and his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Jay and Blanch (Kossman) Flattery.
Gene was a graduate of St. Patrick High School in Georgetown, Iowa. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He worked at the Maytag Company in the Paint Department for 41 1/2 years, retiring in 1989.
