Eugene Myron Behrens, age 86, peacefully entered the gates of heaven on Monday, July 16, 2018. He was born on June 8, 1932 in Clayton, IL to the late John Behrens and Frances Leeharts Behrens. Along with his parents Gene, as he was known by friends and family, is preceded in death by his loving wife Jeanette “Jan” Perry Behrens and their beloved son James Behrens. Gene was strong in his faith and took every opportunity to be active at church. Gene was a member of South Metro Ministries in Sharpsburg. He also attended the First Baptist Church in Newnan’s weekly senior bible study. His influence and help stretched to other ministries such as the FBC Never Grow Old and SMM Men’s Prayer, as well as his SMM Care Family. He also enjoyed spending his time with the Gideon’s foundation. Outside of church Gene was a member of the Men’s Amateur Radio Club and having selflessly served his country in the Air Force he was a part of the American Legion. He had a genuine heart and will be truly missed by so many of the friends and family he cared so greatly about. Gene is survived by his sister Mary Ann Smith and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by many friends he truly thought of as family.
