Eugene E. Thompson, age 81, of Kalamazoo, passed away Friday morning December 20, 2013. Eugene was born December 31, 1932 in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of John and Flossie Majette Thompson. Eugene spent his early childhood in Baltimore, Maryland. Eugene was in the army during the Koren War before coming to Kalamazoo, MI. Eugene attended Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Western Michigan University, with a major in Social Work. Eugene worked for the Department of Social Services as an Intake Supervisor in Kalamazoo and Hastings, Michigan for many years, retiring in the early 1980’s. He also received many awards from the Department of Social Services. After retirement, Eugene worked as a certified nurse assistant at Tendercare of Kalamazoo. Eugene loved to go fishing and spent a lot of time going to different lakes.

He also once appeared in a Kalamazoo Gazette article about fishing at one of our local lakes. He loved watching Westerns on television and spending quiet time at home with his wife Gladys. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Flossie Thompson, two brothers Mahlon Majette, and Johnny Majette, one son Gregory Allen Thompson. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 48 years Gladys Thompson, two sons Gino Felicia Burnette of Kalamazoo and Eugene Thompson Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland, two grandsons, Bryce and Jalen Burnette, both of Kalamazoo, three god-children, Chalene Watson, Charon Byrd, Taylor Bailey all of Kalamazoo, and several nieces and nephews, many cousins and friends, and a special friend Paul Fry.
