Eugene Armand Boucher known as “Gene”, 82, of Avon, CT passed into eternal life on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at UCONN John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, CT.Eugene was born on March 2, 1939 in Hartford, CT to Gerard and Jeannette Boucher. He was the first-born son of the couple and one of nine children. Eugene was educated in CT public schools and was a 1957 graduate of Hartford Public High School. After graduating, Eugene enlisted in the Navy and was stationed in Naples, Italy working in Aviation Communications from 1958-60.While serving oversees in the UK, he met a beautiful Irish woman who stole his heart. On December 27, 1961 at St. Mary’s Church in London, England, he married Elizabeth Moorhouse who would become his wife of 60 years. Together, they raised five children in the West Hartford community.Eugene started his career in the phone company before becoming a fireman in West Hartford. He then transitioned into the family business, owning Connecticut Precision Grinding in East Hartford for many years. During this time, Eugene sacrificed many long hours of work to make it possible for the family to travel during summertime to Ireland to get to know their Irish family and heritage.Eugene loved to spend time with the large extended Boucher family. He enjoyed family picnics, anniversary and birthday celebrations and especially the annual Boucher Christmas party. He particularly looked forward to Friday night card games where his competitive side came out. Eugene was known known for his dry sense of humor, always amusing himself and others with surprising jokes.Despite his naturally quiet nature, he also had a true passion for social justice issues and always advanced the notion that every person deserved to be loved and treated with dignity. His Catholic faith and his interest in all things spiritual helped him through many hard times. In 2002, he traveled on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje in Bosnia-Herzegovina and often talked of those memories.Eugene was a gentle, loving man with a huge heart and an endless capacity to give to others. He was a devoted husband and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by all.Eugene is pre-deceased by his parents Gerard Boucher (2005) and Jeannette Boucher (2012), brothers Henry Boucher (2018) and Raymond Boucher (2020) and son, Sean Boucher (2017). He is survived by his wife Elizabeth of Avon, son Gerard of Enniscorthy, Ireland, daughter Carol and husband Kevin Healy of Burlington, son Paul of Avon, son Stephen and wife Amy of West Hartford four grandchildren Aithne Healy, Siobhan Healy, Madeline Boucher and Maisie Boucher as well as six siblings and their spouses: Georgette Paquette, Gloria Wu and husband Peter, Muriel Towhill, Jeannine Manson and husband David, Colette Waddill and husband Jay, and Norman Boucher.Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. His funeral services will begin on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Newington Memorial, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Newington. He will be laid to rest privately.
