Etta Marie (Daugherty) Thomas, 97, died Wednesday Jan. 2, 2013 at Greenwood Health and Living, where she had resided for the past 6 years. She was a resident of Greenwood and formerly of Whiteland. Etta Marie was born July 15, 1915 in Franklin to James E. and Lilly (Knapp) Daugherty.

She graduated from Franklin High School in 1933. She married William David Thomas on October 28, 1935 and they moved to Whiteland. He preceded her in death in 1981; they were married for 46 years. She was employed for several years with the Franklin Cleaners, Whiteland Branch; then became employed with the Whiteland Post Office until retiring in 1981. After retiring she worked different part time jobs to keep busy. Etta Marie enjoyed knitting, yard work, ceramics and reading books. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Bargersville First Christian Church. She also was a member of N.A.R.F.E. for several years and was a past president during her membership. Etta Marie was an elegant, beautiful, energetic and intelligent lady that loved life to the fullest.

Survivors include two children, Kay Sandra (Ed) Koons of Florida and Kathy Marie Tames of Whiteland, two granddaughters, Michelle Marie Holden of Florida and Dawn Marie (Keith) Buis of Martinsville and four great-grandchildren, Mallory and Mackenzie Holden and Billy and Elizabeth Buis. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and two sisters.
