Esther Lovina Jones died Thursday,November 30, 2006, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Michigan.Esther was born October 8, 1923 in South Bend, Indiana to David and Esther Lovgren. She graduated from Michigan State University with a Degree in Education and taught for many years in area schools. She married William Jones on May 6, 1963 in Three Oaks, Michigan and he preceded her in death in 1977.Esther taught school in New Buffalo, East Grand Rapids Elementary Schools, and also schools in California and Colorado. She was Past President of the East Grand Rapids Schools Teacher’s Union.

She held membership in the Chikaming Country Club and enjoyed playing golf and bridge there for many years. Esther and her brother, Mel, wintered at Fort Myers Beach, Florida where she enjoyed teaching bridge to fellow resident.Survivors include her brother, Melvin Lovgren, of Lakeside, Michigan; stepson, William (Claudia) Jones of Charlotte, Michigan and stepdaughter, Barbara (Wayne) Bruining of Grand Rapids, Michigan; nieces, Melinda Anderson of Huntsville, Alabama and Heidi Castelamare of Port Richey, Florida; nephews, Carl Lovgren of St. Petersburg, Florida and Burton Lovgren of Loomis, California; also surviving are 2 grandsons, Mitchell Lee (DeLee) Bruining and Vincent Jones; 3 granddaughters, Jenelle J. Bruining, Jill A. (Jeff) Cremer and MeLisa Jones and 7 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson and a sister-in-law, Frances (Richard) Linderman of Grand Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a grandson, Daniel Jones in 1994 and a brother, David Alden Lovgren in 2001.Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at Harbert Community Church in Harbert, Michigan with Reverend Joel Kruggel officiating.In keeping with Esther’s wishes, anatomical donation has taken place at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor and cremation will occur at a later date.
