Esther Laura Williams Rivera
Esther Laura Williams Rivera was born on December 11, 1939, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was the fifth of seven children born to the union of the late Pastor James Oliver and Margaret Nora (Stone) Williams.
Esther’s elementary education was received in the Indianapolis Public School system (IPS #56 and #26). She attended Crispus Attucks High School graduating in 1957. She furthered her education in Baltimore, Maryland, at Morgan State College (currently Morgan State University) where she received a bachelor’s degree.
After graduating from college, Esther taught home economics for a short while. She later became employed at Armco Steel in Baltimore, Maryland, for twenty years. At Armco Steel she developed, designed, and maintained the computerized system the company used.
Esther was married to Ricardo Rivera and from that union two sons were born, Patrick Rivera and James Rivera.
Esther was trained in classical music at Peabody Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. She was an avid skater and tennis player. She enjoyed sewing and was an excellent cook.
Esther was preceded in death by her mother in 1982, and her father in 1983. On Saturday, August 3, 2019, she peacefully passed away at the age of 79. She will be greatly cherished and sorely missed.
