Estes Boyd Gibson, 84, of 102 Sherwood Place, Martinsville, VA died on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Blue Ridge Nursing Center, Martinsville. Born on September 22, 1926 in Russell County, VA, he was a son of the late Bessie Ferguson Gibson and Harvey Gibson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant grandson, Joshua Aaron Brooks; sisters, Pauline Pruner, Molly Musick, Ruth Castle and Lola Bishop and a brother Stuart Gibson. Mr. Gibson was a previous manager of Kroger stores in Martinsville, a former member of the Martinsville Jaycees, a former member of the Martinsville Kiwanis Club and the Martinsville Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Martinsville. During World War II he served with the U. S. Army Paratroopers. In 1951 he graduated from Virginia Tech. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ruby Teel Gibson of the home, a daughter, Susan G. Brooks of Davidson, NC; a son, Steven B. Gibson of Stanleytown, VA; grandchildren, Andrew Gibson, Bryan Bolden, Brandon Brooks and Kalli Brooks.
