Ervin Wiltgen, age 84, of Algona, died on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Ervin Julius Wiltgen, the son of Michael and Bertha (Weisenberg) Wiltgen, was born on the farm on September 25, 1928 in Riverdale Township near Bode. He attended St. Joseph High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949. When he was discharged Erv joined the Army Guard, shortly thereafter he was called to serve in the Korean War and served through the duration of the war. Erv was united in marriage with Janet Kaye Cherland in February 1983 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont, MN. Erv was the owner and operator of Wiltgen Jewelers since 1965. He was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, past president of the Lions Club and past president of the Algona Chamber of Commerce. Erv loved spending time with his family and traveling with them to Canada and Minnesota, he enjoyed gardening, flying, fishing, tinkering and working with people at his store. Left to cherish Erv’s memory is his wife of 29 years, Janet; a son, Eric Wiltgen and his wife Tania of Algona; a daughter, Stacy Dodds and her husband Ryan of Lone Rock; six grandchildren, Jake Wiltgen of Algona, Levi Thompson of Ankeny, Logan Thompson of Whittemore, Alex Dodds, Tyler Dodds and Vanessa Dodds all of Lone Rock; four great grandchildren, Kayla, Summer, Lillian and Aiden Thompson; and two sisters, Agnes Baumann and Sally Koppen both of Whittemore. He was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Arthur Wiltgen, Ann Cudnik, Clarence Wiltgen and John Wiltgen.
