Ernest Ulysses “Grant” Dotson, Jr., age 69, of Manassas, VA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at the Adler Center for Caring after a battle with cancer. He was born on July 21, 1946 in Wise County, VA the son of the late Ernest U. and Lillian (Slaughter) Dotson. Grant was raised in Wise County and moved with his family to Northern Virginia where he attended Groveton High School in Alexandria, Virginia. Grant served in the United States Army after high school and became an accomplished mechanic as a young adult. He spent most of his career as a surveyor in Northern Virginia. Grant enjoyed woodworking and often made custom pieces for his friends and family. He was a life-long Washington Redskins fan. A gifted artist and entertaining storyteller, Grant was admired and respected for his caring of others and his kind and soft heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother; John Henry Dotson; sisters, Ina Mae Smith and Anita Louise Shelton. Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth Ann (Bean) Dotson; one son, Forrest Grant Dotson; four daughters, Melody Sue LaGrave, Barbara Dawn Cleary, Michelle Renee Jansen, Charity Anne Pearson; three sisters, Phyllis Sue Dietz, Lois Ann Campbell, Patricia Gayle Stunkard; seven grandchildren, Krystal, Kristen, Justin, Michael, Natalie, Davis and Gable; and two great grandchildren, Tory and Shay.
