Ernest S. Tremblay of Danvers, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 19, 2017. He was the loving and dedicated husband of the late Carol F. Tremblay for 66 years. Ernie was born on February 13, 1932 in Montreal, Quebec. He and his family immigrated from Canada to Lynn, MA in 1937 before settling in Danvers soon after. He graduated from Holten High in Danvers, class of 1950. At Holten High, he was a three year varsity letterman in both basketball and football. He had a life-long passion for many sports and activities, especially football. Ernie and his late brother Victor built and presided over many successful businesses in Danvers and Peabody, beginning with Vic’s Drive-In and Donut shop in 1952. They later founded Vic’s Miniature Golf, Victorian Motor Inn and The Village Green Restaurant and Motor Inn. In 1988, Ernie oversaw the renovation of Vic’s Drive-In as he co-founded the Sylvan Street Grille restaurant with his son. Ernie was proud that so many members of his family and extended family played instrumental roles in the businesses at one time or another. Additionally, many life-long and multi-generational friendships were established with other North Shore families over the work that was performed together. At work, he could often be seen operating machinery or doing repairs with his signature cigar in mouth. He took great pride in his work, and his properties were renowned for being meticulously maintained and landscaped. Ernie was well-known as a hardworking, honest and witty man who was extraordinarily generous to family, friends and strangers alike. For several generations, the children of his family and friends enjoyed playing his “money game” where Ernie would gift them various coins and bills. He was also heavily invested in his community. He coached Senior Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, was a charter member of the Danvers Touchdown Club, donated to several causes and supported local businesses first and foremost. In his free time, he enjoyed collecting coins and classic movies, playing poker, and hosting many memorable parties, both at his home and in his work barn. Ernie is survived by his son Dana Tremblay and wife Cheryl of Melbourne, FL and son Ernest Tremblay Jr and wife Louanne of Boxford, Daughters Karen Adams and Sheila Cummings, both of Danvers and daughter-in-law Kathleen Tremblay. He is survived by eight grandchildren; Joanna (Tremblay) Beske of Orange, CA, Jesse Tremblay of Milwaukie, OR, Dan Tremblay of Danvers, Cody Tremblay of Amesbury, Tyler Cummings of Truckee, CA, Adam Cummings of Danvers, Kasey Tremblay of Boxford, and Ashley (Cummings) Burns of Truckee, CA as well as 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife Carol (Gillis) Tremblay, father Victor Tremblay, mother Margaret (Fagan) Tremblay, sister Geraldine (Tremblay) Zuk and brother Victor B. Tremblay. Ernie also leaves a very large extended family and a number of good friends.
