Ernest Chris Kellenberger passed away peacefully on April 17, 2016, at the age of 92. Ernest married Edith Grimm on September 5, 1948, in West Bend, IA. They moved to Algona shortly after marrying 67 years ago, moving to Whittemore and later West Bend after moving from their farm near Algona. Ernest enjoyed raising livestock and farming. He also enjoyed working on cars and favored diesel engines. He worked on a road construction crew and took great pride in doing a good job on the roads he worked on. He took even greater pride in a firm handshake and the art of negotiating a deal.
Ernest and Edith shared a deep faith together and looked forward to Christmas and celebrating the birth of Jesus with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Both also enjoyed cooking and preparing meals for church fellowship and family. Ernest enjoyed taking pictures and bringing back memories of trips to Spain and California. He had a sense of pride in his appearance and preferred a hat, tie and wingtip shoes for special occasions. He was an avid reader and followed national and global events, which provided for lively conversation in daily phone calls to his granddaughter. He was strong-willed and will be remembered most for never giving up on his love for God and his family.
Survived by wife Edith, son Joel (Teresa) Kellenberger, granddaughter Jeni (Jeff) Hanselman, grandsons Lee (Carly) Kellenberger, Todd (Emily) Kellenberger, Bryan and John Kellenberger, sisters, Della Metzger and Elgeva Knobloch. He was preceded in death by a son Warren Kellenberger, parents Chris and Lena Kellenberger, brother Henry Kellenberger, sisters Alice Metzger, Salome Knobloch, Viola Kellenberger.
