Ernest Jonathan “Ernie” Godwin, 88, went to Heaven on June 22, 2016 after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s. His firm belief in God, and his love for his family, supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Ernie was born to the late Grover Godwin and Bennie Andrews, in Dallas, TX on August 3,1927. Ernie was blessed with a loving Christian family. He married his best friend, Billie Evelyn Brown, on February 1, 1945 in Waxahachie, TX. Ernie helped raise his four children with patience, discipline and humility. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels.
Ernie was a minister at heart. He was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to help those in need and to share the love of Jesus. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he now beholds the face of God.
Ernie is survived by his children Jonathan and Marcia Godwin (Rowlett); Tom and Teresa Godwin (Eureka); Joe and Nancy Normandin (Edmond); Jeff and Cindy Daniel (Royse City); his grandchildren Jeremy and Michelle Nunley; Jonathan Godwin; Matt and Alli Kelso; Scott and Angela Wisecarver; Mike and Robin Cieszinski; Molly Daniel and April Sanders; his great-grandchildren Lindsay Olsen; Lainey Godwin; Macy Mottley, Jackson and Gage Wisecarver; Madilyn and Collin Kelso; and Joseph and Luke Cieszinski. He is preceded in death by his wife, Billie; his parents; and his siblings.
