Born January 30, 1931, to Jesse and Edna Bartlett, in Muncie. He married Freda Mae Carter on May 14, 1951. She preceded him in death in 2004.
Survivors include his children, Ernest and Susan Bartlett, and their children, Jonathan, Joshua, Joseph, Janis, Jennifer, Jerrica, James, Jeanna, Jacob and Janelle Bartlett; Rhonda and Craig Norton, and their children, Macallister, Gracie and Samuel Norton; Debra and James Beaty (both deceased), a child, Brian Beaty. He also has 19 great grandchildren; a brother, James and Ernestine Bartlett, Muncie; two sisters, Mary Lynn, Muncie and Carolyne Meltone, Muncie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Mae, 2004; a daughter, Debra Beaty, 2002; a son-in-law, James Beaty, 1978; a brother, Fred Bartlett; and two sisters, Irene Pearson , and Marie Morgan.
