Those left to honor Ernie’s memory are his wife, Vaundeen of Newton; two sons, Don (Shirley) Kastner of Blaine, Minnesota, and James (Annetta) Kastner of Newton; daughter, Helen Richard of Newton; his eight grandchildren, Eric Richard of Mankato, Minnesota, Amatullah (Colleen) Richard of Coralville, Iowa, Tony Kastner of Blaine, Minnesota, Tracy (Josh) Stai of Kalona, Iowa, DJ Kastner of Newton, Gwendolyn Bennett of Marion, Illinois, Connie Bennett of Evansville, Indiana, Broderick Miller of Marion, Illinois; six great-grandchildren; his three brothers, Francis (Lila) Kastner, Herman (Rita) Kastner, and Joseph (Jan) Kastner; and his sister, Helen Richey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Emily (Biedermann) Kastner; and three brothers, Carl, Alfred, and Paul Kastner.
Ernie was a graduate of Panora High School in Panora, Iowa in 1940.
Ernie was a production worker 34 years for the Maytag Company; when he retired in 1981 he worked in Dryer Assembly.
