Erna (Cieslik) Gaszek, 88, of New Britain, died peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2016, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernard Gaszek. Born in Germany, she was a New Britain resident since 1957 and was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She retired from Honeywell Skinner Valve after 25 years of employment. Erna and Bernie traveled together throughout the years and especially enjoyed Aruba, oftentimes with the entire family. They also visited family in Germany and in Poland. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she is survived by her four children and their spouses, Bernard J. Gaszek, Jr. and his wife Denise, of Berlin, Peter and Sandra Gaszek of Searsburg, VT, Frank and Vanda Gaszek, of Colchester, and Christine and Gerald Rapillo, of Kensington; five grandchildren, Sandra Meadows and her husband Mark, Joanna Rafalowicz and her husband Marcin, David Rapillo and his wife Jennifer, Frank Gaszek, Jr. and his wife Ewa, and Edward Gaszek and Bria Hill; and eight great grandchildren. She also leaves a brother and a sister, both in Germany; and many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank the staff at Ledgecrest Health Care Center for its extraordinary care and compassion.
