Erma Jean Johnson, 93 passed away peacefully on June 27, 2020 in Palmetto Bay, Florida.
Born March 24, 1927 to Nora Stiverson and David Pryse Johnson in Van Wert, Ohio. Predeceased by brothers Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Johnson and James Robert “Bob” Johnson of Ohio and sister Virginia Ringwald of Minnesota, nieces Karen Johnson, Tina Ringwald, and nephew Dick Ringwald. Predeceased by close friend and companion Sarah L. Bennett of Miami, Florida.
Survived by nieces: Gloria (Larry) Schwartz, Becky Rase, Kathryn (James) Adams and nephews: Greg (Lee) Johnson, James Bradley (Bobbie) Johnson, Kerry (Cindy) Johnson, all who knew her as “Aunt Tiny” and her extended South Florida Family.
A native of Ohio she graduated from Bowling Green State University ’48. Started teaching Physical Education in Pontiac, Michigan before moving to South Florida in 1953. Her first job was at South Beach Elementary and in 1957 moved to West Miami Junior High where she taught Physical Education for 25+ years. Erma served on numerous professional committees and was awarded a special recognition from the Florida Association for Health, Physical Education & Recreation in 1969.
With summers free from school Erma and Sarah travel in their camper/motorhomes throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska and Mexico. In 1970 they took a year sabbatical from teaching and traveled around the world.
The family would like to thank Barbara Clifford and all the employees of TLC Home, Inc. of Palmetto Bay for all their love and support of Erma for almost 9 years. They truly gave her Tender Love and Care.
Erma was a Life Time member of Delta Psi Kappa a Physical Education fraternity and included in their meetings and luncheons until the end.
As were Erma’s wishes her ashes will be spread in the Florida Keys, her family home in Ohio and at “Little Bit of Heaven” her favorite camping and fishing site in Colorado.
